Gai's Tip Sheet

SATURDAY 29TH MARCH – ROSEHILL GARDENSRail Position: RAIL - +6m 900m-Winning Post incl. 1200m Chute, +5m RemainderSERPENTINE (Race 2, 1.05pm, 200m, T Clark, 55kg)Serpentine gave us all such a huge thrill when winning the Listed Randwick City Stakes three weeks ago. We were delighted to see him back in the Winner’s Circle and gain that much deserved victory. He’s come through the run in wonderful order and is a picture of health at present. He has drawn well in barrier 1 and Tim will look to use this to his advantage and roll forward to make his own luck from the front, or close to it. He’s taken plenty of confidence from his first-up win and we hope to strike again while the iron his hot in this contest.ANODE (Race 3, 1.25pm, 1400m, A Hyeronimus, 58kg)Anode ran a super race at Rosehill two weeks ago and looks terrific at present. He had to work hard in the early stages to get across from a wide barrier and this extra effort just told late in the finish. With that said, he wasn’t beaten far at the line and battled gamely under pressure. He has an excellent constitution and mind for the job, and has taken nice improvement from each of his starts so far this campaign. He will relish stepping up in distance to 1400 metres in this contest and Adam will be positive from the barrier 11 to try and take luck out of the equation. There doesn’t look to be too much pressure in the race so he should hopefully be able to control the tempo to suit himself, and if he can get into a nice rhythm we think it will take a good one to run him down.BUTCH CASSIDY (Race 6, 3.25pm, 1200m, T Clark, 53kg)Butch Cassidy is in fantastic shape ahead of his return on Saturday. We have been extremely pleased with his two trials this time in at Warwick Farm and Rosehill Gardens. They have given him a good level of base fitness and he has been delighting us with his trackwork ahead of this intended assignment. He has the gate speed to overcome his wide draw in barrier 12 and Tim will get him rolling along into a prominent position where he can get into a comfortable rhythm. He takes on a number of older, more seasoned horses here, which is tough, but we're hopeful that it will set him up nicely to return to his own age group two weeks later. We expect him to continue to improve with the benefit of a run under his belt, with that said he is sharp enough to do himself justice and he will be doing his best work through the line.HAWAII FIVE OH (Race 6, 3.25pm, 1200m, N Rawiller, 60kg)Hawaii Five Oh is in fantastic shape ahead of his return on Saturday. He is a stable favourite and real character who loves being spoilt by all the staff. He was super last preparation when fighting out the finish in a number of the top weight-for-age sprint races and is training nicely ahead of this intended assignment. We have been pleased with his two trials this time in at Randwick, and these trials have given him a good fitness foundation ahead of his return. He has the addition of blinkers for this contest and Nash will be positive from barrier 2 to try to take luck out of the equation. This looks a competitive race on paper, but he’s a quality horse and we expect him to be fighting out the finish.OMINI MAN (Race 6, 3.25pm, 1200m, R Bayliss, 53kg)Omni Man ran another solid race at Rosehill two weeks ago. He battled gamely down the straight yet again and wasn’t beaten far at the line. He’s a lovely natured gelding who has taken nice improvement from each of his three starts so far this campaign and he should be ready to peak fourth-up in this contest. We are hopeful that the step-up in distance to 1200 metres might just bring about that extra length of improvement that is required to get him back into the Winner's Circle. Regan will be positive from barrier 15 to roll forward into a prominent position where he can get into a comfortable rhythm. This looks a competitive race on paper, but he’s in good order and we expect him to be challenging at the finish.MILITARY MISSION (Race 8, 4.35pm, 2400m, A Hyeronimus, 59kg)Military Mission ran another excellent race in his most recent outing at Rosehill. The race lacked much tempo and as a result the sit and sprint nature of the contest didn’t suit his running style. Nevertheless, he battled gamely down the straight and was closing again at the line. He’s come through the run in wonderful order, so whilst he's backing-up seven days later he’s third-up now and ready for the challenge. We expect the rise in distance to 2400 metres to bring about further improvement, and a stronger run contest will suit him down to the ground here. As you would expect, this looks another highly competitive race on paper but he’s in fantastic shape and we are hopeful he can be challenging at the finish in this valuable Group 1 contest.COIN TOSS (Race 9, 5.15pm, 1500m, L Beuzelin, 53.5kg)Coin Toss was excellent first-up at Canberra and powered clear of the field for a dominant all the way success to gain his first career win on Australian soil. He hasn’t missed a beat since and he appears to have taken nice improvement in his trackwork. He has gained a lot of confidence from his success, and he is firing on all cylinders ahead of Saturday. We expect the rise in distance to 1500 metres to bring about further improvement and Louis will be positive from barrier 3 to try and take luck out of the equation. This looks a competitive race on paper but if he can into a nice rhythm we expect him to be fighting out the finish.NEW ENDEAVOUR (Race 9, 5.15pm, 1500m, T Clark, 55kg)New Endeavour is in great shape ahead of his return on Saturday. He improved from his first two trials this campaign to win his most recent trial outing at Randwick in good fashion. These trials have given him a good fitness foundation and he appears to have taken another step forward in his trackwork since. He is holding his condition well and is nicely muscled ahead of this intended assignment. Tim will be positive from his wide barrier to get him rolling along into a prominent position, on or just behind the speed as he’ll be well suited by a genuine end to end gallop. We decided not to accept with him in the Doncaster in favour of trialling him a third time and we're certain it was the right thing to do because he's improved a lot. It does however mean that he's down the order of entry here as Doncaster acceptors get preference. We have everything crossed that he will gain a start but this is only a starting point of a campaign that could lead him up to Queensland so we're able to remain flexible. We will be in touch again tomorrow if he doesn't gain a start.SATURDAY 29TH MARCH – FLEMINGTONRail Position: RAIL - True Entire CircuitSPECIAL ENVOY (Race 6, 3.05pm, 2000m, J Childs, 60.5kg)Special Envoy has had somewhat of a rollercoaster preparation thus far, however, he appears to be back firing on all cylinders following his most recent trial win at Donald ten days ago. We were delighted with the way he attacked the line in that contest, and he hasn’t missed a beat since. He will relish the step up in distance here to 2000 metres and the tempo of the race over this trip should enable him to get into a much better rhythm. We expect to see a much better showing in this contest and with even luck in running he will be doing his best work at the finish.MAJOR BEEL (Race 9, 5.35pm, 2600m, J McNeil, 58.5kg)Major Beel stuck to his task bravely in his most recent outing at Pakenham and battled gamely to the line. He has taken nice improvement in his track work since and appears to be sharper and tighter in condition. We expect the rise in distance to 2600 metres here to bring about further improvement, and it should enable him to get into a nice rhythm. Jye will be positive from barrier 3 to get him rolling along into a prominent position, on or just behind the speed where he can set a tempo to suit himself. We expect him to see a more competitive showing in this contest and with even luck in running he will be challenging at the finish.SATURDAY 29TH MARCH – WYONGRail Position: RAIL - TrueKILLCARE BEACHGIRL (Race 5, 3.45pm, 1200m, A McLucas, 55kg)Killcare Beachgirl is thriving ahead of her debut. She has two extremely good trials under her belt this time in at Randwick. Her sectionals were extremely pleasing on both occasions and she hasn’t missed a beat since. She’s learned a lot from these trial experiences and has been doing everything right ahead of this intended contest. She has drawn well in barrier 6 so Amy will look to use her superior gate speed to secure a prominent position, on or just behind the pace. Her two main market rivals have the benefit of race experience, however if she can reproduce the turn of foot she has shown in her trials to date she will be very hard to run down.STAR BLAZER (Race 6, 4.20pm, 1350m, A McLucas, 57.5kg)Star Blazer is in great shape following his solid first-up effort at Kensington over a trip short of his best. It was important to get that run under his belt and for him to have a positive experience at the barriers. He’s been back to the barriers this week for a refresher and further schooling, he stayed very relaxed and acquitted himself very well. He hasn’t missed a beat since his first start this preparation, and he is holding his condition extremely well ahead of this contest. He steps up in distance here to 1350 metres which he will relish second-up, and Amy will be positive from barrier 1 to get him rolling along into a prominent position, on or just behind the speed. With the majority of the group wishing to sell him online, we expect this to be his swan song but let's hope he can go out on a winning note.SUNDAY 30TH MARCH – STAWELLRail Position: RAIL - True Entire CircuitTEOFILO STAR (Race 7, 4.35pm, 2000m, J Childs, 60kg)Teofilo Star in is fantastic shape on his return to the races after taking a tumble in his most recent hurdle outing at Warrnambool. He had a few quiet days to get over that experience which has enabled us to freshen him up nicely, and he appears to be back on track and is working extremely well ahead of this intended assignment. Jordan will be positive from barrier 3 to get him rolling along into the lead, or close to it as he’ll be well suited by a genuine end to end gallop. He may find the 2000 metres here on the sharp side at this level, however, he is in excellent shape and we expect him to be competitive for a long way.SUNDAY 30TH MARCH – NOWRARail Position: RAIL - TruePROFESSOR PICKLES (Race 6, 5.35pm, 1400m, E Ly, 58kg)Professor Pickles looks super ahead of his first start this campaign and he has been progressing nicely since his most recent trial at Rosehill just under two weeks ago. He has three trials under his belt this time in and these trials have given him a good base level of fitness to work from ahead of this intended assignment. We were pleased with his gallop in the lead up to this race on Tuesday morning and he is nicely muscled at this stage in his preparation. The 1400 metres here is a good starting point, as all he does is gallop so we were reluctant to start him off over anything much shorter for the fear of him being outpaced. Emma’s additional 2 kilo claim could prove to be an advantage, and she will be positive from barrier 12 to get him rolling along into the lead, or close to it. We expect him to improve as he gets deeper into the preparation and as he stretches out over further. With that said, he is fit enough to do himself justice and with even luck in running we think it will take a good one to run him down.

RSVP: Tulloch Lodge Yearling Parade at Evergreen Stud

Our not to be missed annual Tulloch Lodge Yearling Parade is set for Friday 8th March at 11am followed by 1pm lunch at Merewether Surfhouse.

This is a great opportunity to meet first hand the Magic Millions, Karaka and Classic yearlings we have shares available in, with Adrian, our bloodstock team and our breaker Johnny Butler on hand to talk through each of them.

Last year at the corresponding event we paraded eight yearlings for existing owners:

  1. STORM BOY (Justify x Pelican) - $3m Magic Millions winner and current Group 1 Golden Slipper favourite
  2. SHANGRI LA EXPRESS (Alabama Express x Sent From Above) - winner of the $1m Golden Gift and Kirkham Stakes and third favourite for the Group 1 Golden Slipper
  3. SHIVERMEPINK (Zoustar x Pretty In Pink) - Close second to Too Darn Lizzie in a trial a week ago, will trial again before racing in the Autumn.
  4. SHANGRI LA SPRING (Castelvecchio x Opportunity)- looked sharp in his jump-outs before a spell. Returns to the stable with a view to racing through the back end of the Autumn and Winter.
  5. I AM A ROCKSTAR (Fastnet Rock x I Am A Star) - trialled for the first time with a nice 2nd placing a fortnight ago. He has since been spelled. A horse to follow, looks progressive.
  6. CAPITALIST X ESPAANIYAH colt - he had a set back in January. Showed good speed before that. Returns to work in the Autumn.
  7. PARIS TYCOON (Written Tycoon x Paris Match) - jumped out last preparation before a spell. Returns to work later this month. Expect to see more of her this preparation.
  8. INVINCIBLE DUCHESS (I Am Invincible x Ben's Duchess) - returns to work later this month. Has been well educated, just physically has not been ready to trial in earlier preparations.

As you can see, attending this parade can be very worthwhile, and the group of 8 are still relatively unexposed so who knows what other race wins we can add to the CVs of these current 2YOs over the next 12 months.
